A 21-year-old single cask from an undisclosed Islay distillery, bottled by Adelphi.
'Breath Of Islay' was distilled in 1999 and drawn from a refill American oak Pedro Ximenez sherry hogshead. It is bottled at 48.7% with 176 bottles in the release.
Tasting notes:
Nose: root ginger, orange blossom, fruit salad sweets, pineapple upside-down cake, oyster-shell and dockside brine.
Palate: white peach, mandarin, salted milk chocolate, and Bavarian smoked cheese. Earthy and turfy with soft, billowing smoke.
Comment: An exceptionally complex, layered whisky which is surprisingly bright for it’s age.
Adelphi is one of the world's top independent bottlers of whisky. They acquire casks already matured to bottle, as opposed to maturing them themselves, and the Adelphi brand has been synonymous with top quality whisky for in the post-2000 era.
The company also owns the Ardnamurchan distillery on Scotland's east coast, which distilled its first spirit in 2014 and released its first single malt in 2020.
